You can also choose to use an optional third lock at the base of the gate to control the direction that the gate opens. It allows you to set the door to open in either direction or locks both ways to prevent it from opening at all. This feature adds another safety measure for places like the top of the stairs. Please note that this gate ships with a gap between the gate frame and the handles. This is not a defect. The gap will close once gate is properly installed. Do not use this gate at top or bottom of stairs without using all four wall cups. For maximum safety, use four wall cups with sticky pads and screws provided when installing the gate in all locations.
